本授業の目的およびねらい

本授業科目は，専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め，異文化理解を深めて，国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的である。
リスニングとスピーキングを主としたコミュニケーションの能力を高める授業を行い、日常会話、さらにはディスカッションやプレゼンテーションのための基礎力を養成する。

教科書・テキスト

52 Cards to Success - Science and Engineering by Bill JONES, Publisher: Toonsburgh®. This is a 133 page e-book, A4 size with audio. It will be uploaded and is free for JONES' students only this semester as we're online.

注意事項

課外学習として「Ａｃａｄｅｍｉｃ　Ｅｘｐｒｅｓｓ３」を課し、その消化率に基づく評価を授業全体の評価の２０％とする。また、ＴＯＥＦＬ　ＩＴＰ（Ｌｉｓｔｅｎｉｎｇ，Ｓｔｒｕｃｔｕｒｅ）の評価を３０％とする。５回以上欠席をした場合、「欠席」の評価がつく。英語検定試験による単位認定を申請する学生以外は、履修取り下げを認めない。

The purpose of this course is to help students improve their foreign language proficiency, understand foreign cultures, and acquire the knowledge required in a globalized society. This course will help students improve their communicative ability and master basic skills for discussion and presentations.
課外学習の説明資料は、アカデミック・イングリッシュ支援室のサイト ( http://elearn.ilas.nagoya-u.ac.jp/access/ ) からダウンロードすること。

Students will be required to bring a deck of playing cards (trump cards) to each and every class. This will be used for learning, teaching, practicing, reviewing, etc.

PLEASE: Do NOT give the e-book to other students. It is a reward for Jones' students only. It took several hundred hours to make and according to physical chemistry majors at another national university, it is a highly effective and desired book.

Finally, this course will be online consisting of on-demand PDFs (studying at own pace) and most probably, regular ZOOM meetings with audio only.
