| 授業の目的 【日本語】 | | | | | 授業の目的 【英語】 | | This course is aimed at providing basic ideas of comparative methods for empirical analysis in social sciences. Since methodological development in social sciences has been remarkable in the last decades, academic works cannot go without a proper understanding of methodological basics. The overall picture and baseline logic of methodology, however, are not shared always. This course addresses basic framework of academic researches, the core ideas of causal inference, and the differences and similarities among a variety of methodologies
By taking this course, students can learn: (1) why comparative methods can provide a validating logic for causal inference; (2) how comparative methods with qualitative and quantitative data should be employed; (3) what methods should be used for given subjects; and (4) what advantages and disadvantages should accompany with the choice. This course may use examples of political science for the illustration of practical learning, but the basic logic applies to all social science disciplines. |
