This course aims that students will acquire capabilities to understand a wide range of study fields related to environment. In this course, students will study various environmental issues, which occur in and around Nagoya. The goal of this course is that students will obtain capabilities to investigate an environmental problem from a variety of viewpoints, and to discuss with people with different backgrounds. |

この授業では、名古屋周辺で起こっている様々な環境問題のうち、以下の(1)～(3)の３つのテーマを対象として、その状況、原因、今後の見通し、解決策などを議論する。なおコロナウィルス感染症のため、今年度の授業では現場訪問は行いませんので、ご了解ください。
履修登録後、各回テーマに関連する調査課題を個別に指定する。受講者は指定された調査課題について、自分で調べて他者にわかるようレポートをまとめ、期限までに提出すること。また課題によっては、他の受講生が作成したレポートを読んだ上で、自らの考えを交えてレポートを作成する、あるいは質疑応答を求める場合がある。
(1) 濃尾平野西部の環境問題と自然災害
濃尾平野西部の木曽三川河口部には、ゼロメートル地帯に農地や住宅地が広がり、繰り返し水害に見舞われてきた。また長良川河口堰が建設され、ラムサール条約の登録湿地として藤前干潟が保全された地域でもある。こうした歴史や現状に基づき、この地域の自然と人間活動の関係を議論する。レポート提出期限：5月29日。
(2) 再生可能な社会経済づくり—民間企業等の課題と対策
社会経済活動を行う上で不可欠な、エネルギー供給及び廃棄物処理について、どのような対策を行っていくべきか。エネルギー供給面では、中部地域におけるLNG火力、太陽光発電、ごみ発電等の電力源を、廃棄物処理では、中部地域における溶融処理・再資源化施設について考える。電力については、電力供給ネットワークを維持する企業と新規参入企業の見解の相違点等についても考える。レポート提出期限：6月19日。
(3) 名古屋都心の自然環境と都市環境
大都市市街地における自然環境と都市環境の問題、特に都心の地形・水系・緑地と市街地の関係、市街地における大気環境（大気中の微粒子やCO2など）、既存の都市基盤施設や建築物と都市環境の問題などについて、名古屋都心部を例に議論する。レポート提出期限：7月10日。

In this class, we discuss situations, causes, prospects and solutions of the following three themes related to environmental problems in and around Nagoya. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we will not be able to visit the field sites.
Study subjects for each theme will be listed by the faculty members. Students are requested to study an assigned subject and to submit a report on the subject by due date. It is also planned that students will revise their reports and/or discuss online after reading reports of the other students.
(1) Environmental problems and natural disasters in western part of the Noubi Plain
Western part of the Noubi Plain includes the deltaic estuarine region of the Kiso Three Rivers, where agricultural lands and residential areas are distributed below the sea level and floods have occurred periodically. The Nagaragawa River Mouth Dam was constructed in this area, and the Fujimae Mud Flat has been preserved as a registered wetland under the Ramsar Convention. Considering the history and current situations, we will discuss the relation between nature and human activities in this area.
(2) Creating renewable society and economy: issues and measures in private companies
Energy supply and waste treatment are indispensable for our social and economic activities. The students will study LNG thermal power generation, solar power generation, and waste power generation in Chubu region to consider energy supply including understanding the difference of opinions among a company who owns transmission system and new entrants. The students will study melting treatment and recycling facilities to consider waste treatment in Chubu region.
(3) Problems of natural and urban environment in central areas of Nagoya megacity
We will discuss whole of above problems, especially relations between topography, water systems, green spaces and urban areas, atmospheric environment (such as atmospheric aerosol particles and CO2), existing urban infrastructure and buildings.
