授業の目的 【英語】
The purpose of this course is to develop the skills needed to understand Asian legal systems using comparative techniques.
It begins with an overview of where and what is Asia, and concepts of family and law. Then students will learn and discuss topics such as: legal pluralism, constitutional law, religion and the law, ethnic and religious conflict and the law, access to justice, and globalization and the law.

By the end of this course, students are equipped with knowledge and skills concerning the following:
1) A clear understanding of Asian historical, cultural, political, social and legal complexities.
2) An understanding of social, historical and religious influences on law in Asia.
3) An ability to explain the key terminology of past and present law in Asia.
4) A critical understanding of colonial, modernist and other epistemological and structural interventions into the knowledge systems and jurisprudential traditions of law in Asia.
5) An understanding of global family issues in Asia.
6)An advanced comprehension of debates in the selected topics. 7) An ability to search legal information of foreign countries.

履修条件・関連する科目
There are not formal prerequisites, but class members will be expected to have a basic grounding the sources of law and legal analysis.
成績評価の方法と基準
A passing grade will be given based on a demonstrated understanding of the basic concepts and terminology related to the issues of family law and legal pluralism.
Grading will be based on;
1.Contribution to discussion in the classroom and on the CANVAS (20%)
2.Group/individual presentation (40%)
3.Final Paper (40%)

参考書
Course materials and supplemental reading materials will be addressed each session.
課外学習等(授業時間外学習の指示)
Assignments will be given at the end of each class. Prepare for each class by previewing the new material and looking up new terminology. This class uses the CANVAS for making announcements, reviewing, course-related materials, holding online discussions, and communicating. In the discussion forum posting, you are to share with the class your reflection on the assigned readings, to pose questions and to discuss.
注意事項
- All sessions are conducted via Zoom. The first class meets on October 8 (14:45-16:15).
If you are interested in this course, send an email to hito@law.nagoya-u.ac.jp by October 7. You will receive an email invitation from the instructor. To log in to our class meetings on Zoom, use the link and passcode in the invitation.
In addition to the scheduled class meetings, the course includes readings and assignments. Refer to the course schedule inside the CANVAS for details and due dates.
You may use the AC Forum to attend class meetings through Zoom, if you are on campus on Thursday. However, please follow all of the university's guidance, such as wearing masks, using only numbered seats, taking notes of the numbers of your seats, using an antiseptic hand rub or antiseptic hand wash everytime you enter/leave the AC Forum, using earphones, and choosing remote if you are worried a bout coming to campus.
