【授業の目的】社会階層論と隣接領域の視点や概念、調査研究手法を学び、現代の不平等生成メカニズムを捉えるための能力を養う。

授業の目的　【英語】
【Course Objective】This course aims to provide basic framework for the field of poverty and inequality and related academic fields in order to understand various mechanisms generating disparities of social resources in the modern advanced societies.
【Goal】Students will be able to understand a series of concepts and empirical approaches related to poverty or social inequality and apply them to his/her own research.

授業の内容や構成
〇秋学期の授業はZoomによる遠隔授業にて行う。
初回の授業は10月6日から開始する。

【授業の構成】社会階層論と隣接分野からテーマを選んで検討する。今年度は社会科学における自然実験を取り上げる。

1. Discovering natural experiments
1-1. Standard natural experiments
1-2. Regression-discontinuity designs
1-3. Instrumental-variables designs
2. Analyzing natural experiments
2.1 Simplicity and transparency
2.2 Sampling processes and standard errors
2.3 The central role of qualitative evidence
3. Evaluating natural experiments
3.1 How plausible is as-if random?
3.2 How credible is the model?
3.3 How relevant is the intervention?

また履修者は本セミナーで実施される研究倫理教育ガイダンスの受講を必須とする。
The issue discussed in this class is natural experiments in the social science. All students are required to reading paper on each topic below and encouraged to prepare questions for every class.

All participants are required to attend the Guidance session on research ethics conducted as part of this seminar.

報告・議論への貢献（60%）+研究発表（40%）。出席率が2/3以下であれば欠席とする。
