Objectives of the Course [ENG] | | | This course aims to develop students' understanding of, and to enable them to think critically about, western culture, society, and language (particularly the U.S.). Through topics facilitated by the instructor, students will learn about contemporary issues in western cultures in addition to student-introduced topics during class and for presentations. Topics will include how language is used in a variety of contexts such as news media, cultural issues related to the ideals of the Enlightenment, and tools for critical thinking and their importance for our society. Students are encouraged to adopt a critical view of these issues through various group-based tasks, presentations, and homework assignments. |
