Goals of the Course(JPN)

Goals of the Course
The studies of political processes is a sub-field of the political studies in Japan that aims at offering empirical analyses of political dynamics by exploiting relevant scholarly theories and methodologies. The overall objective of this lecture course is to build an up-to-date understanding of contemporary politics, informed by the studies of political processes.

The lecture course is thematically structured, by focusing on major topics discussed in extant studies, i.e., parliaments, the executive, elections, political parties, the mass media and political disengagement/distrust. The students are first introduced to core analytical tools (concepts, theories, and methodologies) to deal with these topics. Then, they have the opportunity to discuss actual political dynamics today by referring to the introduced analytical tools. In this way, this lecture course provides the students with the channel through which they can not only access and acquire advanced knowledge of political theories and methodologies but also critically examine and understand the current political dynamics.
