授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | This course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to participate in the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Jessup is a simulation of a fictional dispute between States before the International Court of Justice. Nagoya University has participated in Jessup since the 2010-2011 season. The National Rounds of Japan will be held around the middle of February 2022. Those who take this course are expected to prepare written pleadings (Memorials) and oral pleadings, both in English, together with Japanese undergraduate students. If we win the National Rounds, we may advance to the International Rounds, which will take place in March or April 2022 in Washington DC. |

履修条件・関連する科目 Course Prerequisites and Related Courses | | Considerable time and effort is required for preparing written and oral pleadings. Some prior knowledge of international law is helpful, though not essential. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Students will be assessed by contributions to the team's work for Jessup. In order to get a pass mark, each student needs to work for more than 90 hours and develop an understanding of public international law. |

課外学習等(授業時間外学習の指示) Study Load(Self-directed Learning Outside Course Hours) | | Under the Jessup Rules, '[e]ach Team must research, write, edit, and develop its own legal and factual arguments without the assistance of persons who are not Team Members.' Thus, paradoxical though it may sound, there is little advice which the Team Advisor, or Mizushima, may provide. |
