英語で書かれた論文を精読し、実験がどのような論理の元に組み立てられ、得られた結果がどのように解釈されて、結論（著者の主張）が出されたのかを、理解する力を養う。

Goals of the Course

The aim of this course is to practice the basic ability of each student to understand the English-written scientific papers: how the conclusion is lead by the experimental results, and how each experiment is set up, etc.

この授業では、受講者が授業終了時に、以下の知識・能力を身につけていることを目標とする。
1. 論文がどのように書かれているか、成り立ちを理解する。
2. 論文で使われていた実験手法を理解し、得られた結果の解釈ができる。
3. 論文でよく使われる英単語を身につける。

Objectives of the Course

The goal of this class is for the students to have the following knowledge and abilities at the end of the class:
1.To understand how papers are written and how they are formed.
2.To understand the experimental methods used in the papers and to be able to interpret the results obtained.
3.To acquire English vocabulary commonly used in academic papers.

授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan

現代生物学、とりわけ神経科学の学問領域において、私たち動物の行動を操る脳の仕組みを遺伝子・分子レベルで語られる様になったのは、モデル生物を用いた研究の貢献が大きい。それら研究の歴史と最新科学について原著論文を読むことで、論文の成り立ち、論理展開、データの解釈の仕方を学ぶ。文献を読む際に重要な英単語の解説も行う。学生各自が行った英訳と解説を発表する機会を設ける。（石元)

動物の行動の基盤となる神経細胞や分子の機能を線虫C. elegansを用いて明らかにした英語の原著論文（数報）を対象とし、輪読・解説を行う。対象とする論文をあらかじめ読んでくることによって、授業時間内に活発な議論ができることを期待する。(野間)
