授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | The course will cover the following modules: 1. Introduction to cell Students will learn about general structure of a cell and related terminology 2. Cell membrane - structure and functions Students will learn about membrane structure and related terminology, together with an overview of membrane's essential functions. 3. Intracellular compartments - structure and functions in protein transport Students will learn about organelles engaged in protein transport and sits mechanism, together with related terminology 4. Cytoskeleton - structure and functions Students will learn about the main structural elements of the cytoskeleton and the related terminology 5. Energy generation in cells - cytoplasm, mitochondria and chloroplasts Students will learn about the main methods of energy generation in living cells, together with related terminology 6. Cell signaling - uses and major types Students will learn about the main mechanism of cell signaling, and its related terminology 7. Student presentations Students will make an oral presentation of a team project |

履修条件 Course Prerequisites | | There are no formal prerequisites for this course. Interest in Biology is the only prerequisite. The course provides an introductory level overview of the content, so even students who are not Biology majors are encouraged to join. Students who are not confident in their English skills, but have a desire to improve them, are also very much welcome. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Grading is based on class participation (10% of final grade), weekly quizzes (50% of final grade) and one group oral presentation (40% of the final grade). A passing grade will be given based on a demonstrated understanding of the basic concepts and terminology of the topics studied in the course, and participation in a group project. |

不可(F)と欠席(W)の基準 Criteria for "Fail (F)" & "Absent (W)" grades | | Absent: Submitted Withdrawal Request Form; Fail: failure to accumulate 60 points or more from the evaluation criteria. |

授業開講形態等 Lecture format, etc. | | This course is planned in hybrid format: Lectures will be held as face-to-face classes with live online access via dedicated Zoom link. Students will have the freedom to choose and join the lectures online or in the classroom at their convenience. All quizzes will be submitted on NUCT course site. Group presentations can also be conducted live online, if necessary. The textbook is accessible and downloadable free online. Additional online social reading space will be provided on Perusall platform. If there is a change of format, this information will be clearly announced on the course NUCT site. |
