Goals of the Course
This course will focus on intercultural competence. Students will gain insight into critical variables for formulating their research proposals on the matter. We will look into issues such as cultural identity, stereotypes and prejudice, intercultural theories, verbal and nonverbal communication, acculturation, and intercultural contact. Through learning about how these variable interact together in an intercultural interaction, students will become better equipped to formulate hypotheses for their research, and be informed on potential confounding effects of variables they do not intend to study. The overlying purpose of this course is to have students become more competent researchers in the area of intercultural communication and intergroup psychology.
