Goals of the Course
This course aims at understanding and examining contemporary security issues through engaging with concepts and theories of security. We will first recap basic theories of International Relations and discuss different conceptulizations of security. We will then further analyze specific contemporary security challenges relying on the conceptual and theoretical perspectives.

Throughout the course, students will discuss what causes contemporary security issues, how to deal with these issues, and why it is difficult to resolve them. They will participate in small and large group discussions, simulations, debates, and other interactive activities to enhance their understanding and critical thinking skills. Prior to each class, students will be expected to have completed the week's required readings. During the class, students will be required to participate in the class activities. After completing this course, students will be able to critically and independently judge the utilities and limitations of various security policies and to be involved in security-related policy making.
