授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | This course introduces the scope and nature of rural development in developing countries from two viewpoints: macro level like nation or region and micro level like farmers, household, or community. Though the core discipline is agricultural economics, the lecture focuses on “how do disciplines neighboring to economics grasp development?”, “how to develop towards improving rural livelihood as well as agricultural production”, and “Diversity of socio-economic relations in rural villages”, especially through reviewing issues in rural development so far. |

授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | Structure of the Course / Schedule 1st and 2nd : Genealogy of development economics 3rd and 4th : Logic of rural development in disciplines neighboring to economics 5th and 6th : Rural structure in developing countries 7th and 8th : Rural Development in Japan 9th and 10th : Effects of development to rural areas: improved or worsened? 11th and 12th : Rural livelihood approach 13th and 14th : Presentation 15th : Discussion on development logic of rural village At the beginning of the class, the oral short test (by way of discussion) is held to confirm the understanding of the previous lesson. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Evaluation criteria are “test or report”, “presentation”, and “contribution to discussion”. The weight of each criterion is 50%, 30%, and 20%, respectively. Credit is given to C- or C (where applicable) or higher grade for total evaluation. |

課外学習等(授業時間外学習の指示) Study Load(Self-directed Learning Outside Course Hours) | | 講義では経済学、開発経済学、社会学等の専門用語を頻繁に用います。馴染みの無い、あるいは理解しがたい用語に気付き次第、教科書・辞典・事典等を用いて、理解を確認することを励行してください。 This course often uses technical/professional terms in the field of economics, development economics, and sociology etc.. Therefore, whenever feeling "not familiar to such terms" or facing with "being difficult to understand such terms", it is important for you to encourage yourself to consult with textbooks and dictionaries/encyclopedia toward confirming as well as understanding. |
