Goals of the Course
This course looks at communication theories, including interpersonal communication, group/intergroup communication, organizational communication, mass communication, computer-mediated communication, and intercultural communication. Students will learn the latest developments in the theories in each of these fields, to help them incorporate theorems and tenets into their research, so that their research plans will be soundly based on a theoretical framework.

Objectives of the Course
Students will be expected to gain the following skills and knowledge regarding communication theories:
1) gain understanding of the different approaches to theories
2) critique existing theories for their robustness
3) appreciate how hypotheses in research are formulated, and contribute to theory building
4) recognize that theories are falsifiable
5) understand the importance of theory-driven research
6) attain the ability to incorporate theory into their own research programs, and to test it
