The aim of this course is to help students examine the histories of southern Yunnan, northern Thailand, northern Laos, and the Shan State of Myanmar, which have been inhabited by Tai people, by reading historical texts written in English.

Course Content / Plan
第１回の授業で東南アジア大陸部北部～中国雲南省南部の歴史の概略を講義し、第２回の授業で当該地域に関わる史料について概説する。第３回からは、当該地域に関する史料のひとつ Captain McLeod’s 1837 Journalを取り上げ、その一部を解読するとともにそこから読み取れることについて議論する。

授業参加度（予習はやってきたか、史料を理解するのに必要な調査がしてあるか、議論に積極的に参加しているか、など）１００パーセントで評価する。60点以上を合格とする。
