Goals of the Course | | | On every place in the contemporary world, in the era of urbanization, human life is directly or indirectly related to the urban. This course provides an opportunity for students to understand key concepts and methods of urban geography and its related study areas to approach matters of the urban. (DP1) |

授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan | | 都市生活の古典的な環境リスクとして指摘される食料・衛生・災害などに焦点を置き、1970年代以降に出版された内外の都市地理学ないし隣接学問分野のネオ古典（日本語または英語）を数冊程度取り上げて輪読し、その内容について理解するとともに、関連する諸問題について議論する。
議論のポイントとしては、①都市とモダニズムないしポストモダニズム、②都市の表象とイメージ、③都市と日常生活とコミュニティ、④都市の自然ないしハイブリッド性、⑤都市における経済活動と創造性などである。以上を通して、都市とはなにか、都市の社会と環境はどのように理解されるか、都市や都市的なものを理解することはどのような意味を持つかということについて理解を深める。 | This course provides an opportunity for students to discuss about concepts and methods of urban
geography, geographies of city, and their related study areas through reading neo-classical books of
urban geography, sociology, economics and so on published recently in Japanese or English, especially focusing urban issues as food scare, environment and/or disaster, focal points for discussion being (1) modern/post-modern city, (2) representing the city, (3) everyday life and community, (4) urban nature and hybridity, and (5) urban economies and creativity. |
