【Course Objective】This course aims to provide basic framework for the field of poverty and inequality and related academic fields in order to understand various mechanisms generating disparities of social resources in the modern advanced societies.

【Goal】Students will be able to understand a series of concepts and empirical approaches related to poverty or social inequality and apply them to his/her own research.
授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan
【授業の構成】社会階層論と隣接分野からテーマを選んで検討する.今学期は社会ネットワーク調査を取り上げる.個人研究報告も実施する.

1. The nature of networks
2. Sociocentric and egocentric approaches to networks
3. Sampling, data collection modes, and research ethics
4. Methods for eliciting alters
5. Methods for gathering data about alters
6. Visualizing ego networks
7. Ego network composition and structure
8. Multivariate and multilevel regression models for ego networks
9. Modeling ego network dynamics
10. Relating egocentric and sociocentric network analysis

また履修者は本セミナーで実施される研究倫理教育ガイダンスの受講を必須とする.
The issue discussed in this class is research methods of social network. All students are required to read papers on each topic below and encouraged to prepare questions for every class. Oral presentation of your research proposal is required.

4. Methods for eliciting alters
5. Methods for gathering data about alters
6. Visualizing ego networks

All participants are required to attend the Guidance session on research ethics conducted as part of this seminar.

前期の経済社会学との連続受講が望ましい.
The students who enrolled in Seminar on Applied Sociology 1 are expected to be enrolled in Economic Sociology in the spring semester.
成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
報告・議論への貢献(60%),研究発表(40%).出席率が2/3以下であれば欠席とする.
Attendance and discussion participation: 60%
