本授業科目は、専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め、異文化理解を深めて、国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的である。本授業では、英語という言語、その言語が培ってきた文化、および現代社会における英語文化についての深い教養を身につける。

This course is intended to help students gain a deeper understanding of the English language and English-based cultures in the modern world. The course provides students with opportunities to engage in a range of academic tasks that cultivate awareness and appreciation of contemporary issues concerning the English language and English-based cultures.

英語・英語文化にかかわる様々な主題についての文献・資料調査、調査に基づく英語による口頭発表など、少人数授業の利点を生かした学習活動を行い、研究拠点大学である名古屋大学の学生にふさわしい学術英語の運用能力をさらに高める。

注意事項
Notice for Students
対面授業≒オンライン授業に加え、課外学習としてe-learningを課し、その成績に基づく評価を授業全体の評価の２０％とする。なお、５回以上欠席をした場合、「Ｗ」の評価がつく。履修取り下げは認めない。

Message from the Instructor
The purpose of this course is to help students improve their foreign language proficiency, understand foreign cultures, and acquire the knowledge required in a globalized society. In a small-sized class, students will conduct literature reviews and make presentations on topics related to English language/cultures. Students are expected to become competent users of academic English.
初回の授業を欠席した場合は、課外学習の説明資料をアカデミック・イングリッシュ支援室のサイト ( http://elearn.ilas.nagoya-u.ac.jp/access/ ) からダウンロードすること。

・英語でのプレゼンテーションはこれから社会生活を営む上で必須要件となりつつあります。
この授業で皆と一緒に楽しく英語を学んでいきましょう！
・“日本にいながら英語を勉強する理由はなに？”についても一緒に考える機会となると思いますので、奮ってご参加ください！
・双方向的コミュニケーションを図りながら授業を進めていきたいと思いますので、自発的な授業参加（個人発表およびディベートへの参加）が望ましい。
