Goals of the Course [JPN]
本授業科目は，自然科学系分野の学問体系を認識するとともに，自主的判断能力を培うことが目的である。動物、植物、微生物の多様な生物を材料としてそれぞれの特性を知るために様々な実験と観察を行う。生物の取り扱い法、生物の観察法、観察用器具の操作法などを習得するとともに肉眼による観察、顕微鏡観察、動植物の解剖、キャンパス内の植生調査などを通して生物の構造と機能についての観察力を養成することを目的とする。

The purpose of this course is to recognize the academic system of the natural sciences and to cultivate the ability to make independent judgments. Students will conduct a variety of experiments and observations using a variety of organisms, including animals, plants, and microorganisms, in order to understand the characteristics of each .

Objectives of the Course [ENG]
Students will learn how to handle organisms, observe organisms, and operate observation equipment. They will also learn how to observe the structure and function of organisms through observation with the naked eye, microscopic observation, dissection of animals and plants, and vegetation surveys on campus.

実習はいくつかのグループに分かれて行うことが多い。それぞれの実習や実験における各自の取り組む態度が重要である。グループ内で他の人に迷惑をかけないようにすること、また活発に討論などに参加することが要である。

Message from the Instructor
The aim of this course is to provide freshman level students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary for biological sciences. The work of the course is done via a series of laboratory exercises and fieldwork in Higashiyama campus. Students are required to attend all the classes and write laboratory reports.
