Goals of the Course [JPN]
Machine learning became a popular and really broad field in recent years. Machine learning algorithms are used in a wide variety of applications, such as email filtering, computer vision, medicine, language translation, computer games, economic, etc. The goal of this course is to give a brief introduction into machine learning with a focus on the mathematics and algorithms used in machine learning. It is targeted at any student at Nagoya University who has interest in machine learning and who wants to see some practical application of mathematics taught in the basic math classes.

Objectives of the Course [JPN]
In this course, we will consider various specific algorithms used in machine learning. For each algorithm we will study the mathematics used in this algorithm and try to implement the algorithm in python. The plan is to encourage group work among the students so that students with different background knowledge can help out each other. For the programming part we will use Google Colab. It can be seen as a bridge between the basic math classes and the engineering/computer science classes.

A list of free online sources and books will be provided during the lectures. But we will also create lecture notes together during the course.

Depending on the background knowledge in programming some students might to recall/lookup some commands for python.
