Goals of the Course(JPN) | | 本講義では言語類型論という分野の入門として、以下の（１）～（３）を
達成できることを目指します。
（１）言語類型論という学問の分析手法・説明に関する基礎的知識を身につける。
（２）世界の言語においてどのような形態・統語現象が普遍的であり、どのような現象が
稀であるかを正しく理解する。
（３）日本語の文法的特徴のうちどのような特徴が世界の言語によく見られるものであり、
どのような特徴が日本語に特異的であるかを正確に理解する。 |

Goals of the Course | | The objectives of this lecture class are the following:
(I) to familiarize the students with the analytical method and explanatory tools
employed in Linguistic Typology;
(II) to facilitate the students’ understanding of universal and non-universal (and
even rare) manifestations of morpho-syntactic phenomena in the languages
of the world;
(III) to help the students understand which grammatical properties of the
Japanese language are cross-linguistically common or unique. |

Objectives of the Course(JPN) | | | 言語類型論という学問の方法論と到達目標を理解し、言語類型論の観点から日本語の言語事実を見るとどのようなことが明らかになるか、あるいは日本語の観点から言語類型論という分野にどのような貢献ができるかを具体的な事例を通して理解し、レポート論文という形でその応用実践例を発表することを目標とする。 |

授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan | | （１）言語類型論という分野の全体像・方法論・主要な研究成果を示します。
（２）言語類型論という分野の歴史的展開と現状の課題を示します。
（３）言語類型論の観点から世界の言語の構造的特徴の普遍性とバリエーション及び
希少性について概観し、日本語が世界の言語の中でどのような点で顕在的な
特徴を有しているかを示します。
（４）言語類型論と認知言語学、機能言語学といった関連分野との接点について触れ、
後期の「言語学特殊研究III」の導入とします。
第1週目: 授業で全体のスケジュールが示されます。
第2週～第15週:毎回言語類型論分野の異なったテーマ(語順、形態論、格標示、テンス・アスペクト・モ
ダリティ、複文等）について具体例ともに、日本語の特徴に触れつつ講義します。
This class will consist of the following components:
(1) Presentation of the overview, methodologies, and
case studies of Linguistic Typology;
(2) Presentation of the historical development and the
current research questions of Linguistic Typology;
(3) Presenting an overview of the universality, variation and rarity of
structural properties of the language of the world and situating
Japanese language in the languages of the world from a
typological perspective and comparing its morpho-syntactic, semantic
and pragmatic characteristics with other languages of the world.
(4) Discussing the connection between Linguistic Typology, and Cognitive
and Functional Linguistic research as a background and introduction
to the 2nd semester lecture 「言語学特殊研究III」.
The first week class: Introduction to the entire course schedule will be given.
The 2nd to the 15th week classes: The instructor will give a lecture each time on a
different topic in Linguistic Typology (e.g. word order, morphology, case-
marking, tense-aspect-modality, and complex sentences) and mention
the relevant morpho-syntactic and other properties of Japanese language
from a typological perspective.
60点以上を合格とします。 |

Course Prerequisites and Related Courses | | 言語学あるいは日本語学の基礎的知識があることが望ましいですが、必ずしも前提としません。
初回の授業で詳しい進度を示したシラバスを配布します。
Prior knowledge of linguistics/Japanese linguistics is desirable, but not
necessary. The first class is very important as the detailed class schedule
and an overview of the class will be provided and explained. |

成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | （１）レポート（85％）：単に他の研究成果や文法書・辞書の記述をまとめただけで、
自分独自の分析・考察を欠いたレポートは相対的に評価が低くなります。また、
自分の方法論や仮説・主張を分かりやすく説明する工夫も評価の対象となります。
（２）授業参加（15％）
なお、5回以上講義を欠席した場合は、学期末レポートを提出しても単位を認定することが
できないので、注意してください。
(1) Term paper (80%): Please note that the content of the term
paper should include original ideas, not just quotations.
Also, plagarism must be avoided.
(2) Class participation including a in-class presentation (20%)
Please note that five absences will lead to the cancellation of
the registered class.
60点以上を合格とします。
A score of 60 or more considered acceptable. |
