授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | As the world becomes increasingly globalized and interconnected, international movements of people have likewise increased. This course aims to introduce migration studies as a subfield of political science (although it can sometimes overlap with sociology), providing a brief history of migration in the modern world, an overview of what current migratory patterns look like, and a discussion of current problems nations face in terms of international migration. Given that many international students at Nagoya University likely have some immigration experience, a deeper understanding of international migration patterns can be enlightening. |

到達目標 【英語】 Objectives of the Course | | Stemming from comparative politics, this course aims give students a broad understanding of international migration and its surrounding issues. We will discuss migration theory, review the history of modern migration movements, and focus on the migration issues affecting several different regions. |

Class 9 - migration in Africa and the Middle East
Class 10 - migration and minorities in the labor force
Class 11 - new ethnic minorities and society
Class 12 - immigrants and politics
Class 13 - migration and control
Class 14 - course review
Class 15 - final exam |

履修条件・関連する科目 Course Prerequisites and Related Courses | | No prerequisites are required. However, students should have a good command of the English language and come to class willing to discuss the week’s topic. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Participation (worksheets): 35%
Midterm exam: 30%
Final exam: 35%
