授業の目的 【日本語】
Goals of the Course(JPN)
有機試料および無機試料からの無機成分の抽出と定量,有機化合物の定量,定性,合成に関する実験に取り組み,その原理とともに実験手法に習熟し,具体的なデータについて解析するとともに,反応機構に関しても考察を加える。生化学実験ではタンパク質と酵素の分離,定量解析,定性解析を中心とし,分子生物学実験では微生物の培養と分類,遺伝子組換え,アミノ酸発酵,遺伝子増幅実験,分子遺伝学に関する実験を扱い,細胞生物学実験では,細胞内構造,細胞周期,分化と脱分化の観察を行い,多岐にわたる実験を実習する。バイオインフォマティクスでは、情報検索、遺伝子探索、立体構造表示、プログラミングなどについて、各自でコンピューターを用いて実習する。

Goals of the Course
The objective of this course is to learn how to perform experiments correctly and in a well-organized manner, including how to properly take notes of the procedures, findings, and questions that may arise from the experiments. The other objective is to clearly and concisely convey to others the findings of the experiments that support your conclusion. This course will introduce you to (a) basics of experimental work, (b) inorganic chemical analysis, (c) organic chemistry, (d) biochemistry, (e) molecular biology, (f) cell biology, and (g) bioinformatics.
Through these seven modules, you will experience extraction and quantification of inorganic components from organic and inorganic samples; quantitative and qualitative analysis, and synthesis of organic compounds; separation, quantitative and qualitative analysis of proteins and enzymes; culture and classification of microorganisms, genetic engineering, fermentation, gene amplification, and experiments related to molecular genetics; observation of the intracellular structure, cell cycle, differentiation, and dedifferentiation; information retrieval, gene search, display of protein three-dimensional structure, and programming using your computer.

応用生命科学領域の基礎的な実験に関する概念と実際を習得する。前半は基本的な分析機器の取扱い,数値データの取扱いからスタートし,無機化学と有機化学実験に重点をおく。また後半は生化学,分子生物学,細胞生物学の3大項目について,基本的な実験方法の原理,操作法,データ処理法を学び,自ら得たデータを多面的に考察する力を養う。

Objectives of the Course
Students will understand the concepts and acquire the techniques of basic experiments in the field of applied biosciences. The first half of the course starts with the handling of basic analytical instruments and numerical data, with emphasis on inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry experiments. In the second half, students will acquire the principles of basic experimental methods, manipulation methods, and data processing methods in the three major areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology, and develop the ability to consider data obtained by themselves from multiple perspectives.

2. Inorganic Chemical Analysis [Measurement of water content in solid sample / Extraction and quantitative analysis of nitrogen in a solid sample / Extraction and quantitative analysis of phosphorus, calcium and potassium in a solid sample]
3. Organic Chemistry [Preparing glass capillaries / Thin layer chromatography / Distillation / Extraction of organic compounds / Analyses of IR and NMR spectra / Extraction, derivatization, bioassay of natural products and functional food ingredients / Organic synthesis (Aldol reaction, Luminol reaction, Wittig reaction, etc.) / Synthesis and properties of polymers]
4. Biochemistry [Enzyme extraction and purification / Activity measurement and kinetic analysis of enzymes / Protein extraction and purification / Ion exchange chromatography / Protein quantification and electrophoresis / Immunoblotting]
5. Molecular Biology [Basics of handling microorganisms / Molecular genetics / Genetic engineering (lac operon) / Glutamic acid fermentation / Biotechnology / Morphology and Classification of Microorganisms]
6. Cell Biology [Observation of the cell cycle / Observation of intracellular structures / Observation of dedifferentiation of plant cells]

Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Students can withdraw from the course by submitting a withdrawal request.
Grading is based on attendance and experiment reports. Only the students who attend the classes regularly and submit their assignments will be graded. If you are missing classes or you fail to submit all requested assignments, you cannot be graded and get credits for this course. Instead of a grade, your status will be classified as "absent".
