授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | This course explores critical perspectives to consider how gender and space have been investigated and taken up in film and media studies and cultural studies. |

到達目標 【日本語】 Objectives of the Course(JPN) | | Students will acquire knowledge and skills to analyze the spatial construction of gendered positions in popular culture, including but not limited to films, comic books and novels. |

授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | Through assignments and class activities, students will develop analytical skills to comparatively examine various uses and associated meanings of space.
The course will be constituted by two sections, (1) Space as an Organizing Principle and (2) Representations of Home and Domesticity, and class topics will be organized around these themes. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Active participation in class discussion (10%) Critical response paper (40%) Presentation (50%) To pass, students must earn 60 points in total. |

課外学習等(授業時間外学習の指示) Study Load(Self-directed Learning Outside Course Hours) | | All students are expected to come to class with weekly readings done. For every class, you will write a critical response (300-500 words) to a required reading, in which you will (i) summarize the core argument of the text; and (ii) write your commentaries and questions regarding this text. You must submit your response paper to a reading in the class in which the reading will be discussed. Main objectives of this assignment are to encourage your active engagement with diverse cultural and social theories, to prepare you for class discussion and to facilitate the development of your critical thinking and writing skills. |

授業開講形態等 Lecture format, etc. | | The course will be taught in person, but the format is subject to change according to Nagoya University guidelines for activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Changes will be notified via NUCT. An online option can be provided for students who cannot regularly attend class for pandemic-related reasons, such as underlying illness and immigration control. Please inform the instructor about your specific needs in advance.
