授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | As rightly pointed out by art historian Boris Groys, “there is…nothing more traditional than an orientation to the new”. Traversing and re-examining some of the most exciting and pressing research topics/questions in Film Studies today, this lecture aims to generate refreshing insights into the study of Asian film cultures in a globalizing era. Specifically, our weekly lectures will look at contemporary cinema culture from two broadly intersecting aspects, 1) how cinemas engage contemporary (East) Asian societies aesthetically and politically; 2) how the cycle and dynamics of film production, circulation, exhibition (spectatorship) have been related to the discourses of national cinema, transnational cinema, and global cinema. Most case studied films are from the region of East Asia. |
