The purpose of this class is to study the basics of psycholinguistics.

ヒトの言語活動がどのように行われているのか、心理言語学的な視点から説明できるようになることを目標とする。

Students will be able to explain how human language activities are carried out from a psycholinguistic perspective.
授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan
Lectures on psycholinguistics will be given according to the following schedule.

Week 1: Introduction to psycholinguistics (chapter 1)
Week 2: Planning utterances (chapter 2)
Week 3: Finding words (chapter 3)
Week 4: Building words (chapter 4)
Week 5: Monitoring and repair (chapter 5)
Week 6: Perception for language (chapter 7)
Week 7: Spoken word recognition (chapter 8)
Week 8: Interim review, mid-term exam
Week 9: Visual word recognition (chapter 9)
Week 10: Visual word recognition (chapter 9)
Week 11: Syntactic sentence processing (chapter 10)
Week 12: Interpreting sentences (chapter 11)
Week 13: Making connections (chapter 12)
Week 14: Architecture of the language processing system (chapter 13)
Week 15: Course review, Final exam

Course Prerequisites and Related Courses
Because the lectures will be conducted in English, it is important that students have a good command of English. It is expected that students have a background in linguistics, psychology, and/or a related discipline in cognitive science.
成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
In-class contribution (20%), mid-term exam (30%), final exam (50%)
If students miss five lectures, they will be considered "absent." A letter grade will be assigned based on students' absolute performance. To pass, students must earn 60% in total.
