授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | This course will look at social identities. Social identity theory, proposed by Tajfel & Turner (1979), has been one of the most studied theories in social psychology. A social identity is held when you identify yourself as a member of a group, more so than you as an individual. Social identity is at the core of stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination.. We will read and discuss chapters of a highly acclaimed book on the matter of intergroup psychology, Brown & Capozza's (2016) "Social identities: Motivational, emotional and cultural influences." Through our readings, we will learn cognitive, emotional, and behavioral consequences of perceiving outgroup others, and how we view ourselves as a member of an ingroup. |
