Goals of the Course
For the purpose of this course, “East Asia” refers to greater area of the East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific. This course aims both to develop understanding of international human rights law and to think about solutions for challenges of current human rights situations in the world, putting particular emphasis on the East Asian situations. For that purpose, the course stimulates students to develop their competence to critically analyse the various documents issued by the UN treaties bodies and human rights mandate holders. Through such a process, the course would inspire the participants’ interests in the historical structure of each of East Asian laws.
