授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | All developing societies since the Industorial Revolution are fated to undergo Westernization, and apparently, Japan is one of the countries which has relatively suceeded to accept Western socio-political values.
But behind the modern Japanese history, there has always been inner tension between traditional values and Western ones. Such tension is most clearly represented in the effort of Japanese thinkers to accept critically or sometimes refuse fiercely "advanced" thoughts from western world.
In this Course, we read some papers of Japanese thinkers living in 20th century, who try to understand und explain their own traditions under such pressure and tension. In the globalizing world we live in, it is also meaningful to touch sincere footsteps of Japanese thinkers endeavoring to bridge the gap between their own thoughts and morals and the western ones. By reading the book unhurriedly, it is hopeful that we are led to search for the way to true encounter among different culutures. |

到達目標 【英語】 Objectives of the Course | | The first aim of this course is to understand Japanese intellectual history from Meiji Restoration to post World War II period, and secondly, as people living in contemorary world, to take over the effort of Japanese thinkers to open dialogues between different cultures. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Starting from the Westernization experience in Japan, we would like to share those of your countries with each other, through exchange of questions and answers, so assessment depends largely on attendance and participation in class dialogue and discussion (attendance 60%, participation 40%) |

遠隔授業(オンデマンド型)で行う場合の追加措置 Additional measures for remote class (on-demand class) | | 遠隔授業は基本的にはNUCTで行う。教員への質問方法、学生同士の意見交換の方法は次のとおりとする。なお、教員より別の指示がある場合は、その指示に従うこと。 ・教員への質問は、NUCT機能「メッセージ」により行うこと。 ・授業に関する受講学生間の意見交換は、NUCT機能「メッセージ」により行うこと。 (※担当教員が「フォーラム」機能を追加設定した場合は「フォーラム」も利用可。) Remote classes are conducted via NUCT basically. Questions to instructors should be asked using the NUCT "Message" function. Student discussions will be conducted using the NUCT "Message" function. (If the instructor has added the "Forum" function, the "Forum" can also be used.) Follow your instructor's directions if your instructor has any other directions. |
