Goals of the Course

In this course, Japanese and international students are divided into small groups and conduct seminars independently in foreign languages. This course aims to cultivate the abilities necessary to actively contribute to the solution of various problems arising in modern society and promote international cooperation.

Course objectives: To deepen students' understanding of the Japanese legal and political system through a comparison with the legal and political system of other countries and to enable students to explain and to communicate such comparative analyses in a foreign language.

授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan

1. Course Outline
In this course, the main participants will be Japanese undergraduate and international graduate students. They will be divided into small groups to conduct seminars in foreign languages (mainly in English). The name of the lecture is "Comparative Law and Politics Seminars," and the project name is "Peer Support Initiative," which is generally known as PSI.

2. Course Design
This course is composed of two subjects(PSI-1 in the autumn semester and PSI-2 in the spring semester). The coursework of each subject will build basically on the last, which means that each subject must be undertaken in the appropriate order and successfully completed. Thus, It is highly expected that Peer Support Initiative 1 (PSI 1) is completed before moving onto PSI 2.

3. About PSI-1
PSI-1 focuses on providing newcomer-international students with information on Japan's culture, society, laws, and politics, as well as helping these students to acclimatize to their new environment. Japanese students will gain an understanding of the laws, politics, and society of their respective international student group members and explain Japanese law, politics, and society in a comparative way.
The 1st, 8th, and 14th lectures are joint meetings where all students and the professor in charge participate. In principle, joint meetings are held on Wednesdays during the 6th period. In the first lecture(Orientation Meeting), students will be divided into groups, and each group will create their own study plan. In the 8th and 14th lectures(Midterm and Final Presentation Meeting), each group will present their research results to other students.
The students of each group will decide the date, time, venue, and method of regular seminars.

成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria

「合・否」で判定する。
①日常のゼミナールおよび1セメスターに2回行われるプレゼンテーションミーティングに積極的に参加し（英語でのプレゼンテーション、他の参加者との議論）、②学期末に課されるレポートを提出することを、合格基準とする
The results will be judged to be either 'pass' or 'fail'.
In order to pass this course, students are required to (1) actively participate in daily seminars and presentation meetings held twice a semester (presentation in English, discussion with other participants), and (2) submit a report at the end of the semester

セミナーに参加する際には、事前にテーマにかかわる専門用語を確認し、基礎知識を収集すること。
Before attending a seminar, students shall check the terminology related to the topic and learn basic knowledge as preparatory work.

Notice for Students

1) The date and location of the first lecture (Orientation Meetin) will be posted on NUCT. Students who can not attend it should contact the Professor in charge by e-mail in advance.
2) The date, time, and location of regular seminars will be determined within the student group. Students can choose a time that is convenient for them.

The courses are held as hybrid classes employing both face-to-face and remote teaching methods basically. If a course will be held by remote teaching methods only, please follow the instructor's directions. Additional measures for remote class (on-demand class)

遠隔授業は基本的にはNUCTで行う。教員への質問方法、学生同士の意見交換の方法は次のとおりとする。なお、教員より別の指示がある場合は、その指示に従うこと。
・教員への質問は、NUCT機能「メッセージ」により行うこと。
・授業に関する受講学生間の意見交換は、NUCT機能「メッセージ」により行うこと。
（※担当教員が「フォーラム」機能を追加設定した場合は「フォーラム」も利用可。）
Remote classes are conducted via NUCT basically. Questions to instructors should be asked using the NUCT "Message" function.
Student discussions will be conducted using the NUCT "Message" function. (If the instructor has added the "Forum" function, the "Forum" can also be used.)
