Goals of the Course | | | This course discusses three often-used estimation methods in empirical economics: (i)fixed-effects estimation, (ii)instrumental-variable estimation, and (iii)difference-in-differences estimation. First, we cover the importance of establishing causality in empirical research. Next, with this goal of establishing causality in our minds, we discuss the three estimation methods mentioned above. |

成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Term-end report (100%) is used to measure the level of understanding on the concepts covered in the course. Term report should make clear econometric identification issues covered in the course using empirical papers of a student’s choice. To pass this course, a student needs a decent level of understanding on the estimation methods covered in the course.
学生の学習到達度を評価するため、学期末レポート（講義で学習した推定方法について、学生が興味のある分野の文献を選び議論する）（100%）の提出が必要。合格要件は、講義で学習した推定方法についての基礎的な理解とする。 |

Textbook/Reference Book | | 1. Wooldridge. Introductory Econometrics: A Modern Approach. Any edition is fine as long as the following 3 chapters are covered: Ch.13 (Pooling Cross Sections across Time), Ch.14 (Advanced Panel Data Methods), and Ch.15 (Instrumental Variables Estimation).
2. Gertler, Martinez, Premand, Rawlings, and Vermeersch. Impact Evaluation in Practice. The World Bank. 2011. Ch.6 (Difference-in-Differences).
3. Other reading materials in this course are listed in the course syllabus to be distributed in the first lecture. |

授業開講形態等
Lecture format, etc. | | 教育レベルが１以下の場合、原則として対⾯授業とする。ただし、対⾯授業を希望しない学生には遠隔（同時双⽅向型またはオンデマンド型）でも受講できるよう、「対面・遠隔（同時双⽅向型またはオンデマンド型）の併⽤」とする。遠隔はNUCT等で行う。なお、オンデマンド型の場合、教員への質問および授業に関する受講学⽣間の意⾒交換は、NUCT機能「メッセージ」により⾏うこと。
