Goals of the Course(JPN)
Goals of the Course
This course deals with quantum chemical calculation methods and computer simulation technologies including molecular simulation. With emphasis on mastery of process, members acquire sills for applying the methods and/or technologies to elucidate the mechanism by which material information such as temporal spatial structure, motion, reaction and so on in atomic and molecular assemblies is integrated and organized into the appearance of function.
Objectives of the Course(JPN)
Objectives of the Course
After studying all, student will be able to:
1) Understand and explain the calculation methods indicated in the course purpose.
2) Discuss the results obtained with the calculation methods indicated in the course purpose.
Course Content / Plan

Each member gives a lecture in turn, for the sake of discussion, based on texts and representative papers describing specific examples of simulations for practical subjects such as the structures of functional materials and chemical reactions from the viewpoint of the potential energy surface. We also conduct surveys, presentations, and discussions of state-of-the-art research examples to enhance learning effect.

1. To apply computer simulation technology to the research topic indicated above, members carefully examine necessary basic knowledges and theories.
2. Select a subject based on 1.
3. Each member gives a lecture in turn for the sake of discussion about the subject selected in 2.
4. Members survey state-of-the-art simulation research for research topics indicated above, to make a presentation and discussion.

Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Your final grade will be calculated according to the following process: the quality of the presentation and discussion (60%) and the contribution to the seminar (40%). To pass, students must earn at least 60 points out of 100. Students who do not intend to complete the course do not need to submit a course withdrawal request form. If a student is absent 4 times or more during the quarter, the final grade will be a “W”.
