授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | In this course, students will have the opportunity to carefully think about their research project for their master’s dissertation and to share their progress with the instructor and their colleagues for feedback. Students will pursue their own research interest by conducting a feasible and methodologically rigorous project. |

授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | In the first few weeks, students will first learn about what a good master's dissertations should look like. After that, students will start working on their own research project independently upon consultation with the course instructor. Students are expected to do a presentation approximately once a month (three to four times per term) where they report on their progress with their master’s dissertation. In order to prepare for this monthly presentation, they should 1) upon consultation with their supervisor, read either one academic book or 7–8 journal articles on relevant theories, methods, or cases etc per month; 2) write a book review or summarize the findings from journal articles they have read in the form of a literature review (approximately 1000 words); and 3) prepare a one-page document about their preliminary thoughts on the way forward for their dissertation (approximately 500 words). |

履修条件・関連する科目 Course Prerequisites and Related Courses | | Students should take two out of the three methodology courses offered within the GSID ("Comparative Methods"; "Introduction to Questionnaire Survey and Interview", and "Introduction to Statistics and Data Science"). If a student wishes to take another methodolgy course, they should consult with the course instructor in advance. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Grades will be determined based on partcipation in class discussion, presentation, and their research progress. Credit is given to C- or C (where applicable) or higher grade for each criterion. |

教科書・参考書 Textbook/Reference Book | | Students will read works provided by the course instructor in the first few weeks. Thereafter, they will read works related to their research project based on the consultation with the course instructor. |

授業開講形態等 Lecture format, etc. | | 原則として対面で行う。例外的に、遠隔授業(同時双方向)を行う。 遠隔授業は Teams、Zoom等で⾏う。 ※履修登録後に授業形態等に変更がある場合には、NUCTの授業サイトで案内します。 In principle, lecture and seminar course subjects are offered in-person. Online participation in classes (interactive communication classes via Teams, Zoom, etc.) may be permitted by the instructor under exceptional circumstances. *Guidance will be posted on NUCT if there are any changes in the class format, etc. after registration. |
