授業の目的　【日本語】
Goals of the Course(JPN)

動物の体の形態には，何らかの機能が付随する．動物は進化の過程で形態を変化させ，様々な機能を獲得し，多様な環境へと適応していった．すなわち，動物の環境への適応の進化を理解するためには，動物の体にどのような機能が備わっているかを理解することが不可欠である．本講義では，特に脊椎動物を中心に扱い，生物の形態と機能の関係をどのように評価していくかについて，手法を紹介する．また，受講者自らが積極的に生物の機能と形態の関係に関わるトピックについて考究し，その発表を行うことによって理解を深める機会を持つ予定である．
4月15日（金）より博物館講義室で開講する予定．

授業の目的　【英語】
Goals of the Course

Function is associated to the forms of animals. The animals have been diversified in both form and function in their evolutionary process, and have adapted to various environments. Therefore, to understand the evolution of animal’s adaptation to the environment, it is essential to understand the form-function relationship. This lecture will introduce some methods for evaluating the form-function relationship, especially focusing on vertebrates. The students have opportunity to make presentation on this topic as well. The course will start on Friday, April 15th at the lecture room of the museum.

To learn the morphological indices to evaluate the functions of organisms.
To be able to read a scientific paper and present your understanding to the audience.

授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan

授業の前半は，
・機能形態学とは
・生物の体の構造
・体サイズの指標
・体を動かす力強さの指標
・体の骨格の強度の指標
・絶滅動物の復元
などのトピックについて解説します．
授業の後半は，各自が読み込んだ論文の発表を行ってもらいます．

The following topics will be lectured in the first half of the course:
> Functional morphology
> Body plan of the animals
> Morphological indicators for the body mass
> Morphological indicators for the joint motion
> Morphological indicators for the body strength
> Reconstruction of the extinct animals

In the last half of the course, the students will read the scientific papers related to the functional morphology, and introduce the review of studies to the other students using power-point slides.
