The purpose of this seminar is to understand ancient organisms and paleoenvironments through field trips, and to study the interrelation between biota and environments.

In this course, students will acquire a deeper understanding of ancient organisms and their ecology though the observation and analysis of various sedimentary rocks of Miocene age and the fossils they contain.
授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan
This seminar is conducted based on the following schedule (tentative). Those who are interested in this seminar are advised to attend the first lecture in October. The schedule is flexible and the dates will be finalized during the first lecture. The lectures are usually held in the lecture room of the Nagoya University Museum (3rd floor). Two introductory lectures are given in October. The lectures are followed by two one-day field trips: one to observe Miocene marine sedimentary rocks in Mizunami (Gifu Prefecture), and one to observe Miocene coral reef limestone (Megami Limestone) in Shizuoka Prefecture. There will be one follow-up lecture/discussion after the field trips.

Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Students must write a report about the field trips and obtain a grade of 60/100 or more in order to obtain the credits for this course.
