Goals of the Course [JPN] | | | 本授業科目は、専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め、異文化理解を深めて、国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的である。そのねらいは、研究拠点大学である名古屋大学の学生にふさわしい学術英語を使いこなす能力を身につけるところにある。本授業では、学術的な英文に関するエッセイレベルのリーディング能力とライティング能力を養成する。 |

Objectives of the Course [JPN] | | | 論理的な英文のカギとなるエッセイの構造に着目し、目的に応じて必要な情報をいかに読みとるか、また逆に、自分の考えをその根拠とともにいかに説得力ある論理的な英文に組み立てるかを学ぶ。将来、専門の論文を英語で読んだり書いたりする時に、指針となる英文構成法の基礎、および実際に役立つ英語表現を多く習得する。 |

Objectives of the Course [ENG] | | | This class aims to learn how to write a research-oriented essay. By increase students' understanding of common structures used in English academic essays, they can improve their reading comprehension and writing skills. Students will take a process approach to writing, including brainstorming, drafting, peer review, revising, and editing. Throughout the semester, they will write a rigorous academic essay in stages. They will select their own essay topics related to their major. Through frequent interaction with classmates in an active environment, students will also develop their abilities to discuss sources. |
