Goals of the Course [JPN]
Goals of the Course [ENG]
As various fields in the world today experience social development, nations are categorized into so-called developed and developing states. Closing the gap between developing and developed states has become an important issue facing international society. The way in which the international community should proceed with development moving forward into the future has become an urgent problem. This lecture looks at the structures of international development from the viewpoint of the human and social sciences; especially culture, education, politics, law and economics. It will also examine the various critical issues that particularly face developing countries.
Objectives of the Course [JPN]
Objectives of the Course [ENG]
The first half of the course focuses on key theoretical debates or paradigms in both policy-making and scholarly/academic circles and the basic history of international development from post-war to present. It ends with an overview of the mechanics of development financing flows, with Week 7’s mid-term presentations. With this background, the second half of the course moves to examine major sector-specific or thematic issues, bringing in historical case studies using primary source materials. The final 3000 word essay exam trains students to bring together concepts and cases from both halves of the course, in either a book review or an original research essay.
