Goals of the Course [ENG] | | 【Standardized across all programs】
The goal of this course is to understand how the Earth we live on has changed over the years to the present. The geological structure of the earth's surface, plate movements on a global scale, and various other phenomena occurring on the earth today will be explained. In addition, the developmental processes of the Earth's crust, oceans and atmosphere, and the evolution of the biosphere, which are closely related to these processes, will be explained. We will also consider the future of the global environment in relation to the anthroposphere based on past changes in the global environment. |

Objectives of the Course [ENG] | | | By taking this course students will acquire a basic knowledge of volcanology and seismology, past and present climate change, and the nature and use of geologic resources. Learning about the interactions between humanity and the Earth system is needed to use Earth’s limited natural resources in a sustainable manner, minimize the risks of natural hazards, and envisage a safe future for us all. Besides providing a basic and up-to-date knowledge of essential concepts of earth science, the aim of this course is to stimulate the interest and curiosity of students for the study of planet Earth and provoke questions, comments, and discussions about issues related to earth science. |
