Goals of the Course [JPN]
伝統的芸術について論じます。伝統的芸術には，絵画・彫刻・音楽・映画などが含まれます。それらの歴史と現在について学びながら，受講生は，技術の一種である芸術が自然とどのような関係を取り結んできたのか，これまで人間や社会が芸術を必要としてきたのはなぜか，芸術が現代の社会に対してどのような役割を果たすことができるのかなど，さまざまな問題について考察します。その過程で，芸術作品の見方，分析の仕方などについても学びます。芸術論Bと補完的です。

Goals of the Course [ENG]
In Art Theory A we mainly discuss traditional art. Traditional art includes paintings, sculptures, music, movies, and so on. While learning about their history and present, students are requested to reconsider the relationships of art, as a kind of technology, to nature, the reasons why human beings and society have needed art so far, and what role can art play in our society. In the process, students also learn how to view and analyze works of art. Art Theory A is complementary to Art Theory B.

主に映画作品やそれらについて論じた哲学書の読解を通じて、近代以降の人々が何を表象することを欲し、いかなる方法を編み出していきたかを検討し、現代社会における芸術の位置づけについて考える基礎知識と思考力を養う。
