Goals of the Course | | By the end of this course, students will:
1) Obtain a deepened knowledge of key developments in the history of modern East Asian history along with how they continue to impact regional relations to this day.
2) Demonstrate their mastery of historical knowledge and practice through classroom discussion, debates, and oral presentations.
3) Conduct basic historical research including the effective use of libraries, archives, and online databases to produce original interpretations of the past. |

Course Content / Plan | | | This seminar course is designed to re-situate East Asia at the center of world history by interrogating the place and importance of East Asia in major global developments, processes, and themes. Topics will change year to year in response to global events and emerging research. |

Participation = 20%
Discussion Leadership = 20%
Reading Responses = 30%

Graduate:
Book Reviews (3 x 10%) = 30%
Syllabus = 40%
Final Paper = 30%
Students must surpass 60% to pass. |
