授業の目的 【英語】
Goals of the Course
This advanced course seeks to build up a foundational critical framework on visual culture through introducing to the students a wide spectrum of cultural theories closely associated with crucial intellectual debates and waves of thinking in modern and postmodern societies. Particularly, departing from the ways of seeing and ways of reading, we rethink important theories and concepts on vision and visuality constructed upon the interrelations between power, ideology, and subjectivity, while also turning to how modern technologies, social infrastructures, and so forth have mediated and transformed the ways of seeing and ways of reading. Our case studies are drawn from a wide range of contemporary cinema and media, digital cultural phenomena and so on and so forth.
