授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | This course is an introduction to the study of language from a sociocultural perspective, dealing with the use of language in communication as a social activity embedded in cultural contexts. It aims to have students theoretically understand and analyze verbal and non-verbal communication in various cultural contexts to become competent and conscious intercultural communicators.
Course schedule and topics: 1. Introduction 2-5. Language and culture: Overview − What is culture − The relationship between language and culture − Address terms and kinship terms 6-12. Language and body in communication − Action − Context in communication − Politeness − Language variation − Body and language in communication 13-14. Summary − What is intercultural communication? 15. Review
Students are expected to actively participate in in-class activities and discussions. |
