授業の目的 【日本語】

本授業は、言語と文化の関係について多角的に学習することで、異文化間コミュニケーションで生じる様々な問題を理論的に分析できる能力の習得を目的としている。その上で、実際に異文化コミュニケーションの場において正確な相互理解を図ることのできる能力を身につけることを目指す。

Goals of the Course
Through the understanding of how Japanese culture and language are related to how Japanese communicate with others, the overall purpose of this course is to enhance students' interests in and understanding of the relationship between language and culture, and have them equipped with theoretical skills and practical tools to analyze the meanings of human social actions in relation to culture and society.

Objectives of the Course(JPN)
By the end of the semester, students are expected to:
・ Understand the relationship between culture and language
・ Understand the universal and cultural aspects in human communication
・ Develop sensitivity towards socio-cultural factors related to Japanese communication and language
・ Analyze a conversation socio-linguistically
・ Apply the theories and concepts in actual intercultural communication
授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan
This course is an introduction to the study of language from a sociocultural perspective, dealing with the use of language in communication as a social activity embedded in cultural contexts. It aims to have students theoretically understand and analyze verbal and non-verbal communication in various cultural contexts to become competent and conscious intercultural communicators.

2-5. Language and culture: Overview
− What is culture
− The relationship between language and culture
− Address terms and kinship terms
6-12. Language and body in communication
− Action
− Context in communication
− Politeness
− Language variation
− Body and language in communication
13-14. Summary
− What is intercultural communication?

Students are expected to actively participate in in-class activities and discussions.

1. Active participation in discussions and activities (+ reaction papers and quizzes) 20%
