Goals of the Course
This course is designed to engage the students with important research perspectives in Film Studies on theory, method, and analysis. Building upon the study of a selection of films from both Hollywood productions and world cinema, we would navigate the students through several crucial strands of film theories and cultivate their ability in critically approaching the text, style, aesthetics, and the politics of the film works.

Course Prerequisites and Related Courses
This advanced survey course is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who have demonstrated certain interest and background knowledge in visual and media studies and have the competency in reading and analyzing cinematic texts in English. Preferably we welcome students whose written and spoken English abilities are adequate enough for them to participate in presentations and to write short essays and so forth.

Above THREE times (including 3 times) of absence=FAIL
35% Attendance & contribution to class discussion/presentation
30% Reading Response (15%x2)
10% Take Home Project (to be announced)
25% Final Paper

To pass, students must earn 60 points in total.
