Goals of the Course
This course is designed to examine some problems of international economic law, including the World Trade Organisation legal system and international investment law. The coverage of topics is necessarily selective given the wide variety of possible subjects which could be included. The first part of the course develops students’ understanding of the basic normative and analytical framework required to tackle a much wider range of issues within the field of international economic law. In the second part of the course, students have short presentations in class and write term papers concerning global topics of their own choosing.

What you will discover in this course is the law regulating international economic relations, including the World Trade Organisation legal system and international investment law.

1. Introduction
2.-9. Lectures: International Law of Trade and Investment
10.-15. Students' presentations on the topics they chose for the term papers

1)The first part (No. 1.-9.)of the course consists of lectures concerning the fundamental principles, rules and institutions of international trade and investment. You are encouraged to actively/passively participate in the discussion of the class and required to submit your ‘comment papers’ at the end of each class.
2) The second part (No. 10-15.)of the course consists of students’ presentations. You are going to have your individual presentation (15-20 minutes including questions & answers) on the topics you choose for your term paper. The other students are encouraged to actively/passively participate in the discussion of the class and required to submit your ‘comment papers’ at the end of each class.

- Participation and involvement in class, including 'comment papers': 30 %
- Presentation(s) in class on the topic that you choose for term paper: 30 %
- Term paper: 40%

Students are expected to learn independently and to arrive well prepared for classes. Reading assignmnents are very important, because our work in class confirms and improves their understandings on the subject. In addition, they need be up to the minute with current global news for the presentation in class and term paper.

This course will emphasize the real practice of international law. Accordingly, the course will stress the need to work with the primary legal tools, including particular treaties and international judgments. It will involve attempts to apply those legal tools to concrete international problems.

Additional measures for remote class (on-demand class)
遠隔授業は基本的にはNUCTで行う。教員への質問方法、学生同士の意見交換の方法は次のとおりとする。なお、教員より別の指示がある場合は、その指示に従うこと。
