Goals of the Course
Control engineering is an academic field that includes not only the design method of controllers but also the design process of control systems.

In this class, we will learn the basic processes of control system design, namely modeling and analysis of controlled objects, and controller design, with an emphasis on classical control.
In addition, by covering the entrance of modern control such as optimal regulators and observers, students acquire basic knowledge for learning advanced control such as robust control, model predictive control, and nonlinear control in the future.

Objectives of the Course
By the end of the course, students should be able to

1. derive mathematical models of controlled objects by utilizing knowledge of mechanics, kinematics of machines, vibration engineering, etc.
2. analyze the behavior of the controlled object in the time and frequency domain based on the mathematical model.
3. select a control method and design a controller according to the characteristics of the controlled object.
4. design and simulate control systems by utilizing control system design support tools such as MATLAB and Octave.

This class consists of the following contents

1. Introduction of Control Engineering
2. Mathematical modeling
3. Transient and steady-state response analysis
4. Frequency response analysis
5. Stability of systems
6. Control systems design (PID, Frequency domain, State space, etc.)

Grading will be given by comprehensively considering the results of report submission, mid-term exam, and final exam.
