授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan
Critical discourse analysis (CDA) is an approach to the study of discourse that regards language as a form of social practice. Scholars working in the tradition of CDA investigate how societal power relations are established, reinforced and challenged through language use. The course will begin by introducing students to the various theories and methods of CDA. In particular, the work of Norman Fairclough and his followers will be extensively discussed. Subsequently, a number of studies in which CDA has been applied will be reviewed. The course will also include a critical examination of the various criticisms that have been made of CDA.
