The purpose of this course is to understand the basic concepts of Cognitive Linguistics, with special reference to Japanese and English.

認知言語学の基本概念を理解し、それを言語分析に応用できるようにする。（Students will understand the basic concepts of Cognitive Linguistics and apply them to linguistic analysis.）
授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan
Every class will start with an introduction to one topic in Cognitive Linguistics, which will be followed by a discussion on further examples. Topics to be covered include the following:

I. Cognitive view of linguistic meaning
- Frames
- Fictivity
- Prototype

II. Networks of linguistic knowledge
- Sense units
- Traditional view of polysemy
- Cognitive view of polysemy
- Syntactic constructions
- Morphological constructions

III. Crosslinguistic comparison
- Language and thought
- Framing typology
- Iconicity

IV. Case studies
- Sound symbolism
- Ideophones
