Goals of the Course
This course will look at evolutionary psychology. Evolutionary psychology has been receiving great attention by cultural psychologists, as the connection between cultural behaviors and the physical and social environment in which people are placed is obviously closely knit. We will read and discuss chapters of a highly acclaimed book on the matter of evolutionary psychology, David Buss's (2016) "Evolutionary psychology: The new science of the mind." Through our readings, we will learn how cognitive, emotional, and behavioral traits are formed according to the characteristics of our environment, and how humans adapt to it.

Students will be able to identify the evolutionary processes behind human behavior, and understand that it is in the human nature to be compelled to act in the way we do, be it good or bad. They will also gain perspective on how cultures differ according to geographical and climatic environment and conditions, to help them understand why certain cultures behave in the way they do.
