To understand basic molecular biology, especially life processes related to cell nuclei and chromosomes.
To understand the physiological function and importance of telomeres and their evolutionary diversity.

The student should be able to understand and explain the followings:
1. how cells (especially animal cells) grow;
2. how chromosomes are inherited;
3. the physiological function of telomeres;
4. how telomeres are involved in aging and cancer.

1. basic cell structure and the role of intracellular organelles
2. central dogma
3. structure and functional domains of chromosomes (replication origin, centromere, and telomere)
4. DNA replication
5. DNA damage response
6. History of Telomere Research
7. basic structure and function of telomeres
8. Relationship between telomeres and aging
9. Relationship between Telomeres and Cancer
10. Diversity and Evolution of Telomeres
