Objectives of the Course | | | This course aims to understand the basic methods and concepts of various nonequilibrium phenomena. After recapitulating and summarizing the equilibrium thermodynamics and statistical physics, we go through the standard methods to describe the transport phenomena. Recent developement on nonequilibrium physics will be also reviewed. The course will be taught in English. |

2. Summary of equilibrium thermodynamics and statistical physics
3. The second law of thermodynamics and nonequilibrium physics
4. Flucutaations and thermodynamics
5. Fluctuations are not noises
6. Langevin equation and Brownian motion
7. Fluctuation dissipation theorem and Einstein relation
8. Hydrodynamics and thermodynamics
9. Onsager's theorem
10. Fluctuation Theorem
11. Examples of nonequilibrium systems: chemical reactions, biological systems, and all that |

Course Prerequisites | | Prerequisites: Basics of thermodynamics and mathematics (at the undergraduate freshman level)
The class will be given in English unless all registered students are Japanese locals. |
